Day 12 : Britain's Greatest Palace.
When I started with a sore throat at Wimbledon, I assumed I must just have been getting worn down from all the drive/fly/train/land action of the past week and a half. But when it persisted, with all the sinus oppression in tow, we finally attributed an answer - Oxford Allergies. While I've never had a speck of issue with allergies before, I now have a renewed empathy for those annual sufferers.
After a good 4 days of discomfort, we finally broke out and went to adventure.
Blenheim Palace was a gift from Queen Anne to the Churchill family, including later to come Winston. Seemingly fitting since I just picked up Clementine ("rhymes with mean, not mine"), and Vance has The Last Lion in his reading queue.
I won't outwardly compare it to Versailles (or Biltmore), but let's be honest: it was massive, and beautiful.
[ The last photo shows the British Climate Personality quite perfectly: sunny, and eclipsed by grey. ]
