Day 91: El Raval.

Day 91: El Raval.

We live in the neighborhood of El Raval.  Historically part of Ciutat Vella, or "The Old City," it's one of the oldest neighborhoods in Barcelona.

The last few years have seen a huge revitalization in this neighborhood, with lots of resources going towards rebuilding parks, attracting new business, and filling cafes with young families.  The University has lots of buildings in the area as well, so the streets are always full of students (as well as tons of hipster vintage stores, we've found).

With both the starting of the school year and La Merce Festival going on in the last week or so, there's been lots to see and do in El Raval. Very fascinating, and so urban.

The last few pictures are of the Barcelona "Castellers."  They make towers out of humans!  It was really fun to watch, and fun to hear the cheering when the littlest one reached the top!
